Schiller & Bodo specializes in 19th Century European Paintings
with an emphasis on French Academic, Realist, Barbizon and Post-Impressionist
paintings. Centrally located in a pre-war townhouse on the Upper
East Side of Manhattan, we maintain a large inventory of fine quality works
and are always happy to consider good quality European works
for purchase or consignment.
Lisa Schiller has been involved in the art business for over 30 years
and has an extensive knowledge of European paintings from 1830
- 1960. She co-founded the Private Art Dealers Association (PADA)
in 1990. Having been involved in the growth of the American
market for European paintings from its onset, she brings a depth
of experience to Schiller & Bodo.
Susan Bodo has been a specialist in the field of 19th century
European paintings for 25 years. After working for Sotheby's
from 1976 to 1981 as a cataloguer, and then as head of the 19th
century European paintings department, she left to establish
herself as a private art dealer. Working in related fields with
Lisa Schiller, they decided to form a partnership in 1992. Together
they offer an extensive body of knowledge and experience in
this rapidly changing and developing market.
Michelle Montgomery has focused on 19th-century European paintings for ten years. After studying with leading specialists on 19th-century art, Dr. Gabriel Weisberg and Dr. Patricia Mainardi, she joined Schiller and Bodo in 2004. Ms. Montgomery has published in Apollo Magazine, 19th-Century Art Worldwide, and assisted on the exhibition “Against the Modern: Dagnan-Bouveret and the Transformation of the Academic Tradition” (Dahesh Museum, 2002). She brings a scholarly outlook as Registrar and researcher and a fresh perspective to the organization.
